How long have you been in business?
I have owned Sedgefield Florist since 1999. (The florist has been in business since 1976.)
What is your primary product or service?
We primarily sell flowers and plants, specializing in sympathy designs, wedding flowers, and the daily arrangements for birthday, anniversary, get well, and other occasions.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
I was considering a career change from teaching in 1999, and my wife had been working part time at Sedgefield Florist. I stayed in teaching, but bought the florist also, believing that it provided a ministry opportunity to be involved in blessing others. I retired as a high school teacher in 2008, and I now focus my attention on customer service and business improvement.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
I truly see customer service as a ministry, whether I am providing flowers for a grieving family, a nervous bride, or a thankful spouse. I love the thoughts of being part of making someone's day with flowers.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
One. No plans to expand.

Corner of Groometown and Vandalia Roads in the Sedgefield Village shopping center. (One mile north from I-85)
What type of payments do you accept?
Visa, Mastercard, Amex, Discover, and of course, cash.
Which areas do you service?
All of Greensboro, Jamestown, and Pleasant Garden, and most of High Point. We are located in the Sedgefield community.
Who owns your company or runs daily operations?
Mickey Atkinson is owner and manager, and daughters Jessica and Jo run things when necessary.
What are your hours of operation?
M-F 9:00-5:30. Sat 9-2.
